Welcome to Slow Food East Bay
Our convivium (chapter) is part of Slow Food International, a non-profit organization based in Bra, Italy.  Slow Food was founded in 1986 by Carlo Petrini in response to the opening of a McDonalds in Rome's Piazza Spagna.  Slow Food is dedicated to the promotion of gastronomic culture and the rediscovery of authentic culinary traditions.  But it is more than a gourmand society.  Through its Ark of Taste and Presidia, Slow Food seeks to defend biodiversity (food variety), including indigenous and "heirloom" foods from around the world that are at risk of extinction.  Slow Food advocates for eco-gastronomy and sustainable agriculture - food production and consumption which meets our needs without compromising those of future generations.   Slow Food endorses quality food - food which is good, clean, and fair.
