October 13, 2026: Potluck: Joyful Moments (World Food Day & Indigenous Peoples’ Day!)

We are still riding the high of our glorious evening in Bancroft Garden in August, and we’re excited to dive into our next potluck on Tuesday, October 13th back in West Berkeley! Won’t you join us?
This gathering feels especially prescient since it falls right in the crossroads of three happenings, all of which will inform our evening together:
Friday October 16th brings FAO’s World Food Day with a theme of innovation, looking to a future that combines modern innovation with traditional knowledge. Meanwhile, Monday October 12th is Indigenous People’s Day, a day to pause and reflect on Indigenous Americans, their histories and continuing culture in spite of the lasting harm tribes have suffered. Both occasions are asking us to not just look back but forward. To hold at the same time both the harms that have been done and also the remarkable work happening that is moving us forward with sustainability and resilience.
Meanwhile, Slow Food USA has chosen October for another round of Joyful Dinners, asking supporters to gather together to share in the joy of food while raising funds for the greater Slow Food work. In these chaotic and uncomfortable moments, growing, preparing and sharing food is a respite that we shouldn’t take for granted. Instead, we should take advantage, celebrating our community, the abundance of food and the producers that ensure it arrives at our table.
For your potluck contribution, bring a dish that brings up a memory of joy: Something from your childhood? An ingredient that reminds you of a travel experience? Maybe something you’ve grown yourself! A little Marie Kondo “Does this spark joy?” moment! 😉
So please join us on Tuesday October 13th to remember, to reflect, to find joy in food. We ask for a suggested donation of $5 for participation (though no one turned away for lack of funds!) that will go toward the Slow Food USA work.
Confirmations will be sent out three days before the gathering and more details about location and dish preparations will be included.
NOTE: We will be outdoors, so please plan for the normal evening Bay area temps.
