September 29th, 2025: Behind The Scenes at Prescott Market with Slow Money NoCal
A collaboration between Slow Food East Bay and Slow Money Northern California for a special “Behind the Scenes” tour and discussion at Prescott Market in West Oakland
A gathering of food lovers, makers, and funders, this collaborative evening brought attention to food business development. When we talk about what a healthy food system looks like, it’s not just farmers and environmental stewards and conscientious eaters: It’s also funders and support providers. It’s businesses striving to be sustainable, pay their employees and owners livable wages, and play a role in their regional community.
On Monday September 29th, we had the chance to learn more about this through the lens of Prescott Market in West Oakland!
After a welcoming drink and a few bites, we got a quick tour of the Market while hearing about the inspiration for the development. Then we settled in to hear more specifically from the founders how they worked with the city and funders to make it happen. Jonathan of Pizzeria Violetta and Mendra of Fast Times Burgers shared the challenges and successes of growing from Covid-era popups to brick and mortar restaurants. Then we got the chance to break into groups to ask deeper questions of each of our presenters.
After, we all had the chance to stay for a beer at Almanac or dinner from Prescott Market vendors like Pizzeria Violetta, Woo Can Cook, Fast Times Burgers and Cafe Noir.
Attendees left with lots of answers… and probably a few more questions too! Looking forward to more behind-the-scenes events like this!
